THE OVERVIEW The program™ provides the transitioning member with a “Welcome Hero Reception” conducted by local veterans, community leaders and local chamber and businesses in the community who want to welcome our returning heroes. THE PROCESS The transitioning member or a family member submits a request via website www.vccsd.org or completes a request card available at participating military basses. The request is then forwarded to the nearest Team (via participating chamber) to schedule the Visit. THE TEAM The team is formed of 5 to 7 local ambassadors who coordinate the visit. One ambassador is designated as the Family-Mentor and Point of Contact. All rights reserved THE VISIT The Team arrives with a “Welcome Basket” all members of the Team join the veteran and his/her family for a 10 to 15-minute visit. A team member introduces the team and presents the contents of the Welcome Basket. THE WELCOME BASKET The Basket contains a bouquet of flowers on one side and a bottle on the other. The basket consists of two sections: 1. RESOURCES, a set Local and relevant resources that the arriving veteran/family may be able to use as they get set up in their new community. 2. FREEBEES, Local merchants interested in welcoming new veterans provide coupons and or free items. Merchants/Business Owners sponsor the program with a $50 -to- 100 contribution. HOW TO SET UP A TEAM: Teams may be set up with-in an Organization who already have volunteers like, chambers of commerce, libraries, American legions, etc. Teams can also be form from a mix of organizations, for example a team may have 2 Rotarians, one chamber ambassador one Military mom and one military spouse etc. |
